U12 Cubs played their final league game on Friday away to Merville. In one of their best perfornances so far they played some good football and two goals from Stephen Mulligan had them leading by 2 goals to 1 with only minutes to go when Merville equalised from a free kick coming against the run of play. The defence had done a great job and kept Merville at bay for long periods but it was a good overall team performance and the players can hold their heads high. U18 Girls beat trand Celtic on Saturday on a score of 3 goals to 1. Villa opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a long renge effort from Emer McHugh. The game was end to end with srand having the better of the exchanges and several chances but didn't capitalise on them. Strand equalised 5 minutes from the break but Villa responded immediately with McHughs 2nd. She held off several challenges before slotting the ball under the advancing keeper. Villa had the better of te exchanges in the 2nd half and increased their lead after 15 minutes with a great individual effort from Leanne Dunne. Emer McHugh hit the post and Lisa Kilgannon had a shot smothered by the strand keeper. The Villa defence was resilliant in their defending and help out for a convincing victory. U14 Girls had their opening game of the season away to Yeats utd and were disappointed to come away with a 5 goal to nil defeat. Next game is away to Gurteen next Thursday evening whwre the girle will hope to put thet result behind them. On Sunday the Junior team hosted Merville in the Sligo Pallets Premier League and will be bitterly disappointd to lose on a score of 3 goals to 1. Villa went 2 goals down early on but in a game where we enjoyed the better of the chances from then on will feel that the points could have been saved. A penalty appeal when Culkin apperaed to be fouled inside the box and later when Fergal Kilgannon beat the Merville offside trap when he appeared to be pulled down were the main talking points of the 2nd half.
