Our Junior team travelled to Murvue in Galway in The Connacht Cup on Sunday but will not be progressing any further as they lost on a score of 4 goals to Nil, its back to league action next week, training as usual this week.
U14 game was postponed due to the weather and don't have any fixture this weekend.
U12s didn't have a game this weekend, they haven't had a game since early October but hope to be back in action soon as this weekend sees the final game in their group so hopefully the next stage of their league will kick off soon, probably early January at this stage.

Games played 26th & 27th November
The weather played a big part again this weekend with the Chaffpool Utd V Dromore Villa Premier League clash reverting to Dromore West as the Bunninadden ground was waterlogged. Michael and the lads won't be complaining though as they took all 3 points on a scoreline of 3 goals to 2. James Hynes scored 2 and Ryan McCoombe also got his name on the score sheet. On a cold but dry morning the game was a very competitive affair with chances at both ends but Villa in the main had the better of the chances and were deserving winners to keep the pressure on at the upper end of the table.
Its Connaught Cup next weekend and Villa are travelling to Galway where Mervue are the hosts. Anyone wishing to travel on the bus to the game should contact Michael Hynes for details.
U12 & U14 boys had a quiet weekend as neither had a fixture and training was cancelled due to the torrential rain on Saturday morning.

Games played 19th & 20th Novenber
U14 Boys was the only Villa fixture this weekend and they had another great win in an 11 goal thriller against St. John’s. It was a great game of football from both sides. Villa took the spoils on a scoreline of 9 – 2. Rory McHugh opened the scoring for Villa and soon after Kevin McGee scored twice to put Villa 3 – 0 up. Joe McHugh headed home a corner to make it 4 and soon after Iarla Connor made it 5 with a long range strike. After the break St. John’s started brightly and after playing some good football pulled a goal back. Villa regrouped and two long range strikes from Mikey Gordon made the game safe. St. John’s weren’t finished yet and scored a second. Iarla Connor then got his second of the day after a great run, Joe McMunn kept his cool to slot the ball home for Villas 9th. This was a great team performance from all involved and credit is due to the team and management for their commitment and hard work which sees them top the table at this stage of the league.
Neither u12 or U14 teams have a game next weekend but our Junior side have an away game to Chaffpool Utd on Sunday at 11am.
Any girls aged from 10 years and up who are interested in playing football this year should contact Joe Burns or Seamus Connolly as training will be starting shortly. We hope to have teams at all ages but it will depend on player numbers and also on help from parents/former players to manage & train teams.

Weekend 5th & 6th November
It was a quiet weekend on the club front as neither our U12 or U14 boys were in action this weekend and there was no junior football played on Sunday due to Sligo Rovers involvement in the FAI Ford Cup Final but it was worth it and we congratulate Sligo Rovers & manager Paul Cooke on retaining the FAI Cup.
Dromore Villa were well represented at the match as in addition to the coach from the club many more travelled by car and rail to the game and were delighted with the Rovers victory and is a great incentive to all the young players in the club.

The weather was the only winner this weekend as many games all over the league were postponed due to waterlogged pitches. Our Junior team were to play Real Tubber but it did not go ahead, they now have an away trip to Ballygawley next Sunday at 11am to look forward to.

The U14 boys lost their first game of the season on Saturday when they hosted Calry Bohs, we were without some players due to other commitments but the lads put in a good performance and were well in the game all through. It was an exciting game with both teams playing good attacking football. The final score was Dromore Villa 3 Calry Bohs 4, the Villa goals scored by Oisin Connolly & a brace from Iarla Connor.
All other teams had a weekend off but hope to be back in action next weekend.

Games played 8th & 9th October
In the Sligo Pallets Premier League we travelled to neighbours Kilglass/Enniscrone and as usual it was a full blooded local derby. In a game that produced 4 goals and 2 sendings off both teams had to be content with a share of the spoils on a scoreline of 2 goals each. Michael Connolly was on target for both of the Villa goals.
No match next week due to Sligo Rovers Cup Semi Final and Everyone at Dromore Villa wish "the Bit of Red" all the best next Sunday when they take on Bohs.
None of our youth teams were in action this weekend but our U14 side have a home tie V Calry Bohs next Saturday at 2pm.

Games played 1st & 2nd October
U12 boys made the trip to neighbours Western Rovers on Saturday and having lost their first 2 games were looking for their first win. They got into the game from the start and played some good passing football and created a few chances early on. The half time score was 3 Nil to Villa and a further 4 2nd half goals put the result beyond doubt. Cahan Hallinan took home the match ball when he completed his hat trick, Paul Clarke netted twice, Fionn Connolly and and a fine goal from distance by Daniel Rolston completed a 7 Nil victory.
Training continues Wednesday evenings at 6pm.
In The Sligo Pallets Premier League Cartron Utd were visitors to Dromore West on Sunday morning, in a very entertaining game both teams had to be content with a point as the game ended in a 2 - 2 draw. It was probably a fair result for both teams over the 90 minutes as both teams went out to play attacking football and both had chances that on another day could have ended up in the net, the Villa goals were scored by James Hynes and Gary Hynes.
Birthday Boy - Chairman of Dromore Villa Joe Burns celebrated his 50th birthday this week, The Beach Bar was the venue for the bash with his wife Pauline, daughters Danielle & Niamh, sons Shane & Ryan, extended family and friends on Saturday night and a great night was had by all. Sligo Rovers even had a record league win to celebrate the occasion, we wish Joe all the best for the next 50!!!

Games played weekend 25th September
U14 boys hosted newcomers Valley Rovers on Friday evening and on a very breezy evening both sides took a while to settle into the game. After 15 minutes Villa made the breakthrough with an Iarla Connor goal, Rory McHugh added a 2nd shortly after with Iarla making it 3 just before the break. Early in the 2nd half Joe & Rory McHugh combined to give Rory his 2nd goal and he completed his hat trick when the Joe again put his younger brother through. Not to be outdone Iarla Connor also completed a hat trick and Villas 7th was scored in the final minutes with a fine long range goal from Mark Devaney. It was a great team performance and the lads will hope to continue their winning ways in their next game.
U12 boys had a home fixture on Saturday morning with Strand Celtic the visitors, we had the benefit of the breeze in the first half and created a few chances but were unable to convert them into scores. Two goals in quick succession and against the run of play put strand in the driving seat and with 3 more strand goals in the 2nd half it was a disappointing result. An away game on Saturday to neighbours Western Rovers is our next U12 fixture.
Our Junior Team got a walkover in the Connaught Cup with Merville Utd unable to field on Sunday and progress to the next round.

Games played 10th to 18th Sept
U14 Boys had a good win over neighbours Kilglass/Enniscrone Utd on Sat the 10th. On a very windy day that made conditions difficult for both sides Villa were on top from early on and scored on 13 minutes playing against the breeze. A penalty put Villa 2 up and the result was never really in doubt from then on, 4 more goals in the 2nd half gave Villa a 6 Nil win and a good start to the year. Next game is at home to newly formed Valley Rovers on Saturday 24th.
Result - Kilglass/Enniscrone 0 Dromore Villa 6
Sligo Pallets Premier league
A home win on a score of 2 goals to Nil over Coolaney Utd was the resut on Sunday 11th for our Junior team, this was a good win for the lads as they were without several regulars and put them in a good league position at this early stage of the season.
Result - Dromore Villa 2 Coolaney Utd 0
U12 boys started their campaign on Wednesday with a home game V Ballisadare, despite a good performance we were lost on a scoreline of 5 goals to 1. Cahan Hallinan was the Villa scorer after 12 minutes when he chased on to a through ball to finish well. Next game is at home to Strand Celtic white on Saturday 24th
On Saturday evening 17th the Junior team travelled to Boyle to play under lights and but lost on a score of 4 goals to 2, this is a disappointing result but will hope to put that result behind them and bounce back next weekend.
Result - Boyle Celtic 4 Dromore Villa 2.
Can all registration fees be paid this week if possible, money can be given to managers or to treasurer Margaret Hynes.

Update 5th September
In the Sligo Pallets Premier League Villa had an impressive win over Real Tubber on a scoreline of 2 goals to nil with brothers Gary and Shane Hynes both getting on the score sheet. In a very entertaining game both sides put on a good display of football despite the wet conditions. The result puts us into 4th place. The lads are at home to Coolaney next Sunday at 11 and your support is welcome as always.

Games played 28th & 30th August
Villa had a worthwhile journey to Sean Fallon Park on Sunday 28th when they overcame MCR in a 7 goal thriller on a scoreline of 5 goals to 2.
Gary Hynes netted 2 and a goal each from David Culkin, Eoin Conlon and Fergal Kilgannon brought all 3 points home. 4 points from a possible 6 is an encouraging start to the season and Michael will be hoping for another big performance this Sunday when we host Real Tubber at 11.
On Tuesday our Junior Ladies were in action in the semi final of the cup with a home game V Ballisadare, on a perfect evening for football the first half was a very close affair with neither side wanting to concede an early goal. The 2nd half started as the 1st had finished but after 12 minutes Ballisadare scored and Villa were chasing the game from them on and were hit for a further 3 as they pulled out all the stops to get an equaliser. They never gave up and pushed Ballisadare all the way to the 90th minute.
The girls can be very proud of their first season as many of this team had played very little soccer before this summer and are already looking forward to next season. Well done to manager Jimmy Murphy, thanks to Michael Hynes for his work over the summer to keep the pitch in great condition as usual, to Noel Kennedy for his help getting the Ladies League up and running and last but not least to Dromore Villa Chairman Joe Burns who was also instrumental in setting up the Ladies League. Hopefully the success of this year will encourage more teams to enter next year.
On a sad note everyone involved with Dromore Villa F.C would like to extend our sinsere sympathy to wife Teresa, son Padraig, daughter Elaine and all the Harte family on the recent death of Dessie Harte, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anim.

Duck Race Result
Our Duck Race Fundraiser went off very successfully on Monday the 6th with an entry of almost 500 ducks.
We had a late change of venue due to problems with the currents at the waterfall in Dromore West so we moved the race to Belville with the finish just below the "wooden bridge".
The ducks took a while to get into their stride but once they got into the current there was no stopping them and within 30 minutes they had made the journey to the Finish where they were cheered across the line by a large crowd of anxious duck owners.
It was a gruelling race with several ducks struggling to get through the bushes and grass along the riverbank and some needing a gentle push to keep them in the current.
In a close finish the duck owned by Michael David Lynch made the most of the wet conditions to cross the finish in 1st place followed closely in 2nd place by the much fancied Myra Foy owned duck with Megan Mullarkeys duck coming in 3rd place.
The "wooden spoon" went to Conor and Eoin Gordons duck who struggled to get through the current under the bridge and in a very close finish eventually came in last place.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who made this event such a success, everyone who bought a duck, all who sold the ducks and to all the volunteers who helped out with the running of the race on the day without whom it would not have been possible.
Thanks also to all those who turned up to watch the race, we hope you enjoyed the evening and thanks for making the effort to come out to cheer on the ducks.
The result of the race was
1st place - Michael David Lynch (€500)
2nd place - Myra Foy (box of frozen Chicken)
3rd place - Megan Mullarkey (bottle of whiskey)
last duck home - Conor & Eoin Gordon (€20)

U16 Girls League Final Diasppointment
The curtain came down on the U16 girls season when they were defeated for the first time this season in the League Final in Strandhill on Tuesday 17th May.
The girls never showed the quality that had taken them to the final when they played their best game of the season in defeating Yeats the previous Friday, this factor had a huge bearing and in hindsight maybe that game had taken more out of them than we had realised.
with the absence of Eimear McHugh Villa struggled for long periods against a stiff wind in the first half and that task was made even more difficult with an injury to centre half Rachel Twydell after 15 minutes forced the management into changes.
We introduced Marie Ruane who had missed the semi final through injury and it was always a risk having to bring her on so early.
The Villa back 4 and keeper Sinead Hallinan defended bravely but conceded just before the break.
With the assistance of the breeze Villa started the fightback literally from the kick off with a Megan Duffy shot from the half way line that deceived the Ballymote keeper and bounced into the net to level the game. This spurred Villa into action and Marie Ruane had a shot just the wrong side of the post but credit to Ballymote they played well against the breeze and got their reward 15 minutes before the end and indeed with Villa attacking in numbers had a few other chances.
Overall on the night the better team won and Villa will have to look back on a disappointing end to their season.
On Saturday 21st Villa had to concede their wfai game against Yeats due to 5 injured players and a further 3 not available.
We wish all our players both boys and girls gook luck in their respective exams and hope to see you all back for next season.

U16 Girls Semi Final Victory
Villa U16 Girls remain unbeaten after defeating Yeats Utd by 4 goals to 1 in Carney. This was a rescheduled match after last Fridays game was abandoned at half time when a thunderstorm left the Villa pitch under water.
Villa had to battle in the early minutes but took the lead against the run of play when Eimear McHugh got a brilliant headed goal from a Megan Duffy free kick. The Yeats equaliser came from an og just before the break.
Villa introduced Aoife Connolly at the start of the 2nd half and she made an immediate impact as her run after run caused problems in the Yeats defence. Villa were awarded a penalty which Duffy slotted home. Villa scored their 3rd when McHugh scored direct from a corner, Aoife Connolly finished the game off with a fine individual goal in the final minute. This was an outstanding performance by every Villa player. Result Yeats Utd 1 Dromore Villa 4.

update 18 April 2011
U12 Cubs played their final league game on Friday away to Merville. In one of their best perfornances so far they played some good football and two goals from Stephen Mulligan had them leading by 2 goals to 1 with only minutes to go when Merville equalised from a free kick coming against the run of play. The defence had done a great job and kept Merville at bay for long periods but it was a good overall team performance and the players can hold their heads high. U18 Girls beat trand Celtic on Saturday on a score of 3 goals to 1. Villa opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a long renge effort from Emer McHugh. The game was end to end with srand having the better of the exchanges and several chances but didn't capitalise on them. Strand equalised 5 minutes from the break but Villa responded immediately with McHughs 2nd. She held off several challenges before slotting the ball under the advancing keeper. Villa had the better of te exchanges in the 2nd half and increased their lead after 15 minutes with a great individual effort from Leanne Dunne. Emer McHugh hit the post and Lisa Kilgannon had a shot smothered by the strand keeper. The Villa defence was resilliant in their defending and help out for a convincing victory. U14 Girls had their opening game of the season away to Yeats utd and were disappointed to come away with a 5 goal to nil defeat. Next game is away to Gurteen next Thursday evening whwre the girle will hope to put thet result behind them. On Sunday the Junior team hosted Merville in the Sligo Pallets Premier League and will be bitterly disappointd to lose on a score of 3 goals to 1. Villa went 2 goals down early on but in a game where we enjoyed the better of the chances from then on will feel that the points could have been saved. A penalty appeal when Culkin apperaed to be fouled inside the box and later when Fergal Kilgannon beat the Merville offside trap when he appeared to be pulled down were the main talking points of the 2nd half.

They have one game remaining in this years league, an away trip to Merville on Friday evening. Training Tuesday @ 5pm------ The U14 Boys travelled to Gurteen on Saturday in the League Qtr Final knowing a win would reward them with a home fixture to Yeats in the semi final. It was a game in which we had several chances to put the home side away but despite good pressure were unable to convert it into scores. The game finished level at 1goal apiece after extra time but Villa lost out in the penalty shoot out. This was a very disappointing result but full credit to the lads for their hard work all season. Well done also to James Hynes & Eoin Conlon on their first year managing the lads.-------- Villa U18 Girls were defeated by Yeats Utd, in what was a poor 1st half Villa took the lead from the penalty spot 5 minutes before the break, Megan Duffy converted. Yeats came out a different team after the break and got 3 well taken goals and were it not for Villa keeper Sinead Hallinan it could have been more. Villa's 2nd goal, from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time was again dispatched by Megan Duffy. Dromore Villa 2 Yeats Utd 3. Next weeks game away to Strand Celtic is a must win game for the girls.------------ On Sunday afternoon Dromore Villa hosted Cartron Utd in the Mc Sharry & Foley Cup and were convincing winners on a scoreline of 3 goals to nil.

Stephen Tempany Cup
We held our annual blitz for the Stephen Tempany Cup today Sunday 2nd January, 43 boys and girls aged from 8 to 12 took part and a great day was enjoyed by all.
There were 8 teams captained by Conor Gordon, Kieran Devaney, Oisin Connolly, Joe McHugh, Joseph Taheny, Shane Kilgannon, Fergal Ryan and Iarla Connor.
We had some great games with nearly every game won by a margin of 1 goal, a few games even went to a "golden goal". Some fine individual play and great team spirit was on display with every game played in a skillful and sporting manner, well done to all the players concerned.
The Shield competition was won by Oisin Connollys team who narrowly defeated his cousin Conor Gordons team by the Golden Goal (scored by Oisin) when the game ended in a draw at full time.
In the Cup competition it took another Golden Goal to decide who took home the Cup and again it was team Captain Joe who scored the deciding goal.
This is the first year we had girls taking part and well done to Cassandra, Sinead, Leona, Ciara, Eanna , Chantal , Shona, Katie who was on the shield winning team and to Leah who was on the Cup winning team.
Thanks to all the parents who braved the cold conditions to cheer on the teams, to Cormac and Shane for reffing the games and especially Joan Tempany for presenting the Cup. Thanks also to school principal Helen Kelly and board of management of Templeboy N.S. for the use of the Astro Pitch. we hope everyone enjoyed the day and wish you all a Happy New Year from Dromore Villa F.C.
